Favorite Animated Series

Not to take anything away from the great Warner animation (Bugs, Daffy, Elmer, Yosemite Sam and the rest) it is just that there is a whole new world of excellent And entertaining animation out there. Here's my faves.

Animaniacs

Steven Speilberg created Animaniacs after his popular Tiny Toons wrapped production. Starring Yakko and Wacko, the Warner brothers, and their sister Dot.

While many of the episodes contains several different toons—some featuring other "stars" of the series like Slappy Squirrel, the crabby, retired star of hundreds of old slapstick cartoons— some are 30-minute parodies of such movies as Good Fellas and Duck Soup.

Freakazoid!

Dexter Douglas installed a new CPU chip in his computer. After his cat walked on the keyboard and typed random gibberish, he presses the Delete key. Suddenly he gets sucked into the computer, turned into a hulking blue super hero with a shock of "Bride of Frankenstein" hair, wearing red pajamas.

This is hilarious stuff, also from Steven Speilberg's Amblin Entertainment.

South Park

Although not animation in the style of the others, this is an amazing series that pushes all the boundaries, especially those of good taste. But it gets away with so much that you have to admire the hell out of it. Nowhere else on TV can you see Jesus fighting it out with Satan or Santa Claus.

If you don't get Comedy Central, go out and buy the tapes or DVDs.

Honorable Mention goes to:

1) Earthworm Jim, the short-lived series from Universal Studios Animation.
2) Histeria, a recent series highlighting historical events, using humor.
3) Powerpuff Girls. Just don't ask, OK?
4) Buzz Lightyear of Star Command. Stay frosty, Rangers!
