Don't know about you, but I commute to work. Some days, I commute on a light rail train (15-20 minutes including waiting for the train) and some days I drive in and park (with a 5 minute walk from car to office).

I use my not-behind-the-wheel time to listen to tapes. Actually, I record tapes and CDs to MiniDisc or my iPod and listen to that. I usually don't listen to "straight" music (unless it is Anna Russell or PDQ Bach)...I listen to books-on-tape, old radio shows (OTR), and full-cast dramatizations.

Here are several of my favorites. These make commuting go by quickly. I get a kick out of the reaction I see in some people when I suddenly smile or laugh at something on one of these recordings. The people around me give me looks ranging from, "what the Hell are you listening to?" to, "I'd better not look at you too long. You might be some kind of maniac!"

I've put together several pages of my favorites:

Alien Voices Anna Russell
BBC Radio Humor British SciFi
Funny Stuff Hitchhiker's Guide
PDQ Bach Radio Spirits
Seeing Ear Theatre Ziplow Productions

Here is the great disclaimer...

With the possible exception of some of the clips found in the Ziplow Productions page, I have included audio samples for which I have not obtained specific permission. The clips and the complete productions from which they have been taken remain the express copyright of the individuals and companies to which they are registered.

My hope is that some of you out there will like what you hear enough to go out and purchase the actual tapes and/or CDs.

As far as the OTR recordings, these are ones I have located on the Internet from various sources. These sources have stated that they believe these shows to be in the public domain. If you are in possession of legal documentation stating that you are an owner of the broadcast or electronic rights to any of these shows, and can provide that documentation to me, please contact me and I will take it off.

By the way... all of the samples are in mp3 format. You will either need WinAmp or MacAmp or another mp3-capable player to listen to them.
