Ziplow
Productions Presents...
There are audio
books, where one author reads either an abridged or full version
of a famous, or at least a new, novel or series of short stories.
And then there are full-casts adaptations!
While I enjoy
the former, I really sit up and take notice of the latter.
Steve Ziplow
and the Hilton Head Island (South Carolina) Repertory Company
have recorded a series of science fiction / fantasy novels, giving
them the full treatment, including sound effects. This is like
listening to some of the best radio dramatizations from the 40's
and 50's but recorded using 90's technology.
Unfortunately,
Ziplow Productions ceased business earlier this year. I have,
however, found their tapes in some used book stores. These are
really very good productions. You should seek them out.
Without Steve's
permission I have made 56kbps .mp3 excerpts from several of their
recordings, and have copied their own excerpts from other works.
Click on the links below each picture (covers from the tape sets)
to download the mp3s. You will, of course, require an mp3 player.
Links for Macintosh and Windows players appear near the bottom
of this page.

Innerverse
© 1997. Story by John DeChancie
Sometime in the future, the United States
has divided into at least two different countries. One,
the United States of Central America, and the other, the
Republic of Innerverse, a nation of people so totally
controlled by nanotechnology that they are almost a nation
of zombies. The USCA sends a top military spy to find
out and bring back Innerverse.

What if astronauts from the United States
of America were the first ones to reach the moon? But
not in 1969.
What if Howard Hughes performed
secret rocket research in the late 1940's, and actually
got there? And what if he was being secretly funded by
the Mafia?
