The Discworld
Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels are amazing. He is able to
take the reader on a complete journey, through a totally different
world (one that is very consistent from novel to novel) but using
many different sets of characters.
Now, some of those characters appear in many of the books. And
many of the locales appear in them all. Death, WHO SPEAKS ONLY
IN CAPITAL LETTERS finds his way into them all.
Many of the books follow either events or other things that the
reader will already be knowledgeable about. For instance, he has
done an entire book that parallels Phantom of the Opera, without
actually being Phantom of the Opera.
There is an official Pratchett newsletter filled with news, appearances,
items of info, and other Discworld stuff, published and emailed
to your electronic door monthly. Go to Discworld
Monthly and check it out.
In addition to the novels, below, Terry releases calendars, daily
diaries, and other such books each year, many featuring short
pieces by Terry.
Terry's books have been responsible for something like 10-12%
of all book sales in the UK over the past few years. He is addictive.
The only other books to come near to his popularity are the Harry
Potter books.

There have also been a couple of Discworld books that feature
characters from the main nevels but are not really Discworld
stories (or at least not full novels).
|
This has a dissertation on the science behind all the
magic of Discworld interspersed with a clever Discworld
novella by Terry.
|
This is actually a cookbook. Some of the
recipies can even be served in polite company.
|
The second "Science of Discworld" book, a combination
of novellette and real science.
|
This story comes in a large coffee-table
sized edition with profuse illustrations
|
Another
clever novella by Terry is "The Sea and Little Fishes"
which can be found in the collection LEGENDS3.
It concerns Nanny Ogg and Granny Weatherwax and some apples
and a contest... and headology!
That same story can be heard on one of the LEGENDS audio
tape collections.

All covers are and remain
the copyright of the artist or artists who originally gave
them life. Unless, that is, some publisher paid them a few
pounds more to buy the rights away. I have not obtained
permission to replicate them, but hope that these fine individuals
and international conglomerates recognize that I am just
trying to help promote interest (and sales) in their books
