Favorite Movies to Watch Again and Again

My alltime favorite, can watch it again and again and can even enjoy it no matter where I come into the movie, is The Princess Bride. Good story, good acting, and very good cast. And where else can you see Andre The Giant being loveable?

This time around, I'm highlighting a wonderful Cary Grant movie, a movie that sort of got lost in theaters but is a must-see, and a movie that also didn't get a good break in theaters or by critics about 8 years ago that is almost—but not quite—a remake of a Marx Brothers film. All are available on tape with the first two on DVD as well.

Father Goose

Cary is a free spirit with a boat in the wrong place at the wrong time during World War II (Pacific version). He is pressed into service as a coast watcher, stuck on a deserted island. One night he sets out for a neighboring island only to find a young school teacher and her six even younger female charges. This is a funny and gentle comedy.

Playing By Heart

A wonderfull movie where the lives of about a dozen different people intertwine and weave a marvelous story. Be prepared to get lost a bit at first trying to tie everything together. Believe me, it all comes together in the end. Full of wonderful acting by great actors. Might be called a chick flick, but is much greater than that would imply.

Brain Donors

An almost retelling of the Marx Brothers' classic, A Night at The Opera. This time the setting is the ballet with the lead roles taken by John Turturro, Bob Nelson, and Mel Smith, and the Margaret Dumont role handled by the late Nancy Marchand.

Very underrated and underappreciated movie. Also a very funny movie.

Honorable Mention goes to:

1) Princess Bride , Rob Reiner's magnum opus with love, a giant, Wallace Shawn and swords!
2) Operation Petticoat, Cary Grant and Tony Curtis and a pink submaring during WWII.
3)
Down Periscope, Kelsey Grammer in a variation on Operation Petticoat.
4) My Man Godfry. William Powell is a millionaire turned bum turned butler.
