More Books by DA (and TJ)

Douglas Adams has written, or caused to be written, other books. Most notably are the books shown below. By the way, if you click on the linked titles, you will go the the audio-books section of this site where you can discover the wonders of unabridged, read-by-the-author tape sets of some of these books.

Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency
Douglas Adams
Published in 1990

One man's boss has been murdered—but doesn't want to be dead so he tries to hitchhike home—and he is caught scaling his girlfriend's apartment building in the hopes of retrieving the tape from her mesage machine. He runs into an old college acquaintance who has changed his name and become a detective specializing in the holistic approach to detecting, such as going to the Carribbean to search for clues to a woman's missing cat, then charging her for the trip.

Oh, and there is a horse in a professor's bathroom, too.

The Long Dark Tea-time of the Soul
Douglas Adams Published in 1992

The second of the two Dirk Gently books. In this one, a woman meets a Norse god who has been blown up in an explosion at Heathrow Airport, learns about his father who is resting comfortable—on ice white sheets—in an elderly care facility, and flies to Valhalla.

The Meaning of Liff and
The Greater Meaning of Liff
Douglas Adams and John Lloyd
Published in 1983 and 1985

Have you ever wondered what the correct term for something is. Like that concave vertical thing under your nose that only serves to channel snot directly down toward your mouth when you have a runny nose?

This book will change your life by letting you know about hundreds of these mysteries. My favorite entry is—

Plutharo: a game where the balls are beaten against a wall with stout sticks, until the prisoner confesses.

Published a second time with even more meanings as The Greater Meaning of Liff.

Last Chance to See
Douglas Adams
Published in 1995

Dougla Adams and Mark Carwardine explore the horrible probability that hundreds if not thousands of species are and will be completely dieing off as man encroaches into their habitats.

This is a serious book, and a serious situation.

Starship Titanic
Terry Jones
Published in 1997

Douglas Adams was so busy with trying to get the interactive game, Starship Titanic, finished that he didn't have enough time to write this book.

Enter the very talented Terry Jones. Terry took a short, basic treatment of the story and wrote this wonderful novel. It is just one possible story line based on the game. I hope that he will write others.

The Starship Titanic is the largest intergalactic liner ever to be built. Her designer, Leovinus, is the greatest artist ever known. Everything is a work of art. The only problem is that the financial problems of building the ship bankrupted an entire planet. So, some corners had to be cut...........

Now, there are other books about T.H.H.G.T.T.G. that you might like to read. They can be found here:

All covers are and remain the copyright of the artist or artists who originally gave them life. Unless, that is, some publisher paid them a few pounds more to buy the rights away. I have not obtained permission to replicate them, but hope that these fine individuals and international conglomerates recognize that I am just trying to help promote interest (and sales) in their books
