PTerry (that's
Terry Pratchett, you know)
Terry Pratchett is one of the Big 3 so far as my favorite authors
go.
He is best known as the very prolific author of the Discworld
series of books, currently numbering 23 novels and a short story
or two. Discworld? How do you describe a circular, flat world
riding through space on the backs of four monumentally giant elephants
who, in turn, stand on the back of an even larger space turtle?
And how do you describe a world where the sun rises each day,
goes overhead and sets, only to swoop under the entire world,
causing at least one of the elephants to raise a leg to allow
it to go through and get ready for another day?
Terry is also the author of many other books, a bunch of them
classified as "children's" books but all of them very
readable by adults.
I have split the covers into two pages.
Many of his Discworld novels have finally come over to the US
and are available through all the major book stores and through
Amazon.com. So
far, this is not the case for his other books (except for Good
Omens which he coauthored with Neil Gaiman. What you will
see in almost all of the covers are the British editions.
His entire range of books should still be available through the
Internet Bookshop
UK and definitely through Amazon.com
UK . Both get you the books in as fast as three days, but
generally in a week or so. Their prices are listed in British
£ (pounds Sterling) and are more expensive than the US editions,
but you get the original cover art. You can compute the US costs
by using this
simple £ to $ calculator:
